Embarkation Details: Embarked Overseas on

25 October 1916 with 35th  Battalion,

5th  Reinforcements at Sydney, NSW on Ship H.M.A.T. A11 "Ascanius".

Cause of Death:  Killed in Action on

12 October 1917 while serving with 35th  Battalion  at Passchendaele, Belgium

Burial place: No known grave.

Next of Kin:  Father, John Askie, Cessnock, NSW.

Charles Askie was killed during the advance Passchendaele. He was killed after a burst of machine gun fire, which wounded him in the leg and groin.  He died within a few minutes and was left in a shell hole.  His body was not recovered.
