Born: 13 March 1890 at Mackay, QLD, Australia.

Father: William CORNFORD.

Mother: Ellen MOLONEY.

Education: Mackay Boys State School, QLD.

Occupation: Sawyer.

 

Service and Enlistment Details

Enlisted on 20 August 1914 at Townsville, QLD.

Address at Enlistment: ?.

Embarkation Details: Embarked Overseas on

24 September 1914 with 9th  Battalion, H Company at Brisbane, QLD on Ship H.M.A.T. A5 "Omrah".

Cause of Death: Killed in Action on

17 October 1917 while serving with 1st  Pioneer Battalion in Belgium at the age of 27 years.

Burial place: Belgian Battery Corner Cemetery, Ieper, Belgium, Portion II, Row: D, Grave No: 6.

Next of Kin:  Mother, Mrs. R. Cornford, Nebo Road, Mackay, QLD.

Religion: Church of England.

Notes:
Henry Cornford served for a few months at Gallipoli.

He was awarded the Military Medal for showing conspicuous bravery during an attack on the Australian trenches at Sailly-Sur-La-Lys and again did excellent work at Pozieres and Flers.
