Stan Tait's Air-Raid Shelter

A Home-made Air Raid Shelter made during the war by well-known Mackay Accountant Stan Tait. This was one of only two known existing Air-Raid shelters surviving in Mackay and was demolished in 2007.
A view of the Air-Raid Shelter looks like it was made of concrete and reinforced with railway sleepers?.  One of only a couple of known shelters dating from the Second World War, this shelter was demolished in 2007

Stan Tait's house located at 357 Alfred Street was removed from the site in 2007. It is now vacant land awaiting development as at June 2009. (Glen Hall Collection)
